I’ve been wanting to do a creative shoot with this high-waisted print skirt from South African brand, Loincloth and Ashes for some time now, I’ve always felt it would be visually beautiful to photograph and I’m just really in love with it. I actually got this skirt custom made a couple of years ago and the design was inspired by Carolina Herrera’s signature white shirt and high-waisted look. I’ve always loved how regal and timeless she always looks and I knew having a maxi skirt like it would be a long term investment. I, of course, had to put my own twist on the classic by using a modern African print.

During the morning school run, when I drop my youngest boy at school in the mornings, I pass a part of the beach along the marginal where, at low tide, the beach looks like it goes on forever, it’s absolutely gorgeous! It’s perfect for long early morning walks and on weekends, you’ll find a lot of kids playing soccer in the vast space. I knew it would be perfect for the shoot, so I pitched the shoot idea to Carlos (the photographer who takes most of my images) and he loved the idea. So Sunday morning, in the midst of a light drizzle and a cloudy sky, we shot some beautiful images. I’m actually so happy that it was cloudy (although initially I’d envisioned a sunrise setting) this turned out a lot more moody, romantic and soft.
