The linen dress, is there anything more classic? It’s one of those pieces that immediately conjures up images of a safari and when you think safari, you can’t but not think of Yves Saint Laurent. The pioneer designer of the safari jacket, inspired by his upbringing in Algeria, created an entire collection of safari inspired pieces for the opening of his first boutique in Paris in the late 1960s. Later, many designers, including Ralph Lauren in his Spring 2015 collection for example, put their own stamp on the look.
That was the mood and feel I was trying to capture with this shoot. Classic, muted tones with a setting that could be found anywhere on the continent. I really wanted the accessories and my make-up to also reflect the natural and earthy tones of the dress and style. Our backdrop and the early, soft light of the sun (we shot these pics in the morning) really added to the mood and the genius that is Carlos and his wife Emily as photographers, not only added to my ease but also made the shoot so fun. I really loved the way these images turned out.
